Biography

As the artist duo, Laurelynn, Jennifer and Kay have designed handmade art-to-wear together for over fifteen years. Their favorite media include wire, beads, polymer clay and fiber.

According to Jennifer, “We started working on designs together when I was a kid. My mom, Kay, designed art-to-wear clothing and costumes. As a teen, I remember being struck by how amazing her work was--I actually sold some of her clothing to complete strangers right off my back--they loved it that much. Her artistry was amazing and inspiring. I got my start because I wanted to make jewelry to match some of my mom’s designs, so I converted some of my gigantic earrings from the 1980s into necklace pendants. I later learned knotting, bead weaving, and wire wrapping. By college I was designing for several local boutiques. I’m responsible for most of the hemp and bead macramé anklets the surfers in Corpus Christi were wearing in the mid-1990s.”

Since then, the two have made their pieces available through several boutiques and gift shops, private showings and online.

Jennifer and Kay have lived in both Houston and Corpus Christi, Texas. Kay is an accomplished beadweaver and art-to-wear designer with a background in garment making, costuming, and pattern making. In addition to jewelry design, Jennifer also works as a teacher and writer. Jennifer is a graduate of TAMU-CC earning her MA in 2004.
